Finding Aids to Individual Fonds

Dalhousie University Archives holds fonds, or collections, on a wide variety of subjects. The list below provides an overview of these. Once you have identified materials of interest, make a note of the locator numbers, since they will be required to page material. When finding aids are available online for individual fonds, a hyperlink appears at the end of the descriptive entry that will open the finding aid or other digital resource. In many instances where finding aids are not available online, inventories of the fonds may be found in the Archives.

Finding Aids are research tools that provide detailed information about specific collections, or fonds, held in an archives. They often outline the date span covered by the materials, the extent of holdings (generally expressed in centimetres or metres), a biographical sketch or organizational history of the records' creator, as well as a brief synopsis of the nature and format of materials the fonds (e.g., correspondence, annual reports, log books; audio cassettes, textual records, architectural drawings).
