5 cm of textual records; 2 volumes Administrative HistoryThe Dalhousie University No. 7 "Overseas" Stationary Hospital was established in response to the need for qualified medical
personnel required to serve in the First World War.
It was first mobilized on November 9, 1915 at Dalhousie Medical College in Halifax with 162 on staff. He staff included a
wide variety of health professionals including doctors, dentists, nurses and other administrative personnel. The majority
of these were Dalhousie students or professors.
The entourage sailed from St. John, New Brunswick on December 13, 1915 and was stationed first in England and later in France.
Custodial HistoryThe records in accession 37-77 were donated by Col. Samuel R. Balcom in 1977; those in accession 63-03 were donated by Ralph
W. Kane.
Scope and ContentThe fonds consists of a booklet on the history of the stationary hospital, the correspondence of nursing matron Laura Hubley,
a book of signatures belonging to members of the unit, a small album containing postcards from Sergt. A. Fraser Tupper, who
worked with the Dalhousie Unit in 1916 and 1917, and correspondence and photos from Sergt. Tupper to Ralph Kane.
