Biographical Sketch

Dr. Young was born in Quebec City in 1897, graduated with an M.A. from McGill University in 1919 and later with a Ph.D. from Cambridge University in 1921. After further studies in Chicago he relocated to Halifax in 1924 to work in the Department of Biochemistry at Dalhousie University. He joined the staff as Professor and Head of the department, which he held until 1948.

During the war years Dr. Young conduct secret research for the Department of National Defence in the field of chemical warfare.

Dr. Young was a member of many professional organizations including both national and international societies. He was awarded an Honorary D.Sc. from Acadia University in 1957 and an Honorary LL.D. by Dalhousie University in 1965. He passed away March 24, 1976.

Fonds consists of sensitive material regarding chemical warfare. These papers include correspondence, research, reports, notebooks, articles and manuals.
