Dr. Hawkins was born in 1862 and graduated with his M.D. degree from McGill University in 1885. He settled in Halifax and was active in community organizations aimed at helping less fortunate members of society. He purchased Adsum House in 1912 and opened his house to aid victims of the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Fonds consists of student tickets from Halifax Medical College, Dalhousie College and University, Montreal General Hospital and both the Provincial and City hospitals.
