Terry Ryan is known to have worked as the National Film Board of Canada’s (NFB) Atlantic Distribution Chief in the mid 1980s. He is also a screenwriter, director, producer, and entrepreneur. His film credits include producing Co-op (1991), Five Transformations (1991), Four Stories of Tuktu (1991), Three Stories for Young People (1991); co-writing the screenplay for Bayo (1984); directing The Media Between Us (1969); and Sail Away (1977). In the early 1990s he also designed a one-handed keyboard which he had patented.

The archives received this fonds from Terry Ryan in four accessions. Most of the materials were donated in 1987 in three accessions; the records pertaining to Ryan’s keyboard patent were accessioned in 1998.

This fonds consists primarily of documents related to the production of the movie Bayo, an adaptation of the book Lightly by Chipman Hall. The fonds includes manuscripts, scripts, contracts, memos, correspondence, newspaper clippings, a copy of the movie on videocassette, and photographs. The fonds also contains two poems composed by Ryan as well as some documents related to his development of a one-handed computer keyboard.
