Biographical Sketch

Lt. Col. William Bruce Almon, the son of Thomas Ritchie Almon and Frances (née Egan) studied at McGill University and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in World War One seeing action in Russia. He was very involved with early theatre in Nova Scotia, particularly with the Theatre Arts Guild and the Anglican Young People’s Association drama festivals in Chester. His first cousin, also named William Bruce Almon, studied engineering at King's College in Windsor before joining the Dalhousie Medical College in 1894. He graduated in 1899.

Custodial History

This fonds was donated by Almon’s daughters Mrs. C.R.T. Cunningham and Mrs. H.M. Carscallen. The materials were accessioned by the archives in 1980.

Scope and Content

This fonds consists of correspondence from Arthur Winters of the Anglican Young People’s Association to Almon, and a Theatre Arts Guild rehearsal schedule. Some local theatre programs were also donated with the fonds which have been relocated to the MS 3 Reference materials.
