Administrative History

Two Planks and a Passion Theatre Company is a professional theatre company, which was founded in 1992 by co-artistic directors Ken Schwartz and Chris O’Neill in Canning, Nova Scotia. Two Planks is dedicated to producing new Canadian works, with strong roles for women, and a relevance to the community. In addition Two Planks is also committed to touring rural communities throughout Canada. The Company tours twice annually throughout the Maritimes and once nationally every three years.

Two Planks began with a modest one women show “See Bob Run” in 1992 and became nationally recognized in 1994 with their groundbreaking performance of the Butterbox Babies. In addition to their theatrical performances Two Planks also offers theatre classes to children, organizes a summer theatre school for children, are involved in arts advocacy, and participate in community outreach projects.

Custodial History

The fonds remained in the custody of the Two Planks and a Passion Theatre Company until it was donated to the Dalhousie University Archives in 2004.

This collection consists of records relating to the management and productions of Two Planks and a Passion Theatre Company from its inception in 1992 to 2004. The collection consists of administrative records, programs, scripts, posters, newspaper clippings, news releases, newsletters, photographs, and a video cassette.
