1.3 metres of textual material; 1 roll of microfilm Administrative HistoryThe La Have Outfitting Company were ship chandlers, as well as a fish exporter and sold general merchandise and groceries
to the general public. They were also involved in buying and selling schooners. It was founded in the early 1900s, and was
primarily run by the Gray family of La Have. Fraser Gray was the owner and acted as the general manager for the majority of
the company's existence. As the shipping and fishery industry decreased, they operated mainly as a grocery store into the
1960s.
Custodial HistoryLedgers, journals, cashbooks, fish sales and miscellaneous files were donated by Teleen Gray and his son Allan Gray over several
years starting in 1974 until 1985. In 1989, Michael Watson donated cashbooks, ledgers, journals and the Registrar of Shipping,
La Have, 1959-1969. Other records were also donated, such as photographs, a List of Canadian Shipping, Miscellaneous Shipping
Papers but these records are missing from the collection.

Scope and ContentThe La Have Outfitting Company fonds contains mainly financial records related to their business of outfitting and supplying
vessels, as well as sales of fish, coal and salt between the years of 1905-1976. These records include invoices cash books,
fish sales, journals, ledgers, vessel supply lists, accounts and lists of vessels that were insured by La Have Outfitting,
as well as loans they had given out. The fonds also contains some general business correspondence, legal documents regarding
insurance policies and shareholders information as well as documents relating to vessels, such as charter contracts, log books
and register of vessels.

Scope and Content:
This series contains two log books for the Schooner Moran, charters and shipping papers, and a register
of vessels leaving and coming into the La Have port between 1959 and 1969. The log books include
information regarding the sailing of the Schooner Moran, directions heading and weather reports. The
register includes information on where vessels were registered, their agents or masters, tonnage, and
where they were sailing to or from. The charters include the name of the vessel, date of the contract,
where they are sailing to and from, the captain's name and their cargo.
