Music Collection
The Killam Library's extensive music collection, which includes recordings
(CDs and records) and scores, is housed in the Department's Audio
Room on the 5th floor. Music resources are available to Dalhousie
faculty, students and staff, as well as to the general public. A piece
of ID must be presented at the reference desk in order to listen to
music. Listening facilities, headphones, and an electronic piano are
all available here.
Music recordings do not circulate; scores classified from "M 5" on
may be signed out for one week at the Circulation Desk on the main
floor of the library. The music collection consists chiefly of clasical
music, but also includes jazz, folk, ethnic, military, and an ever-growing
selection of popular and rock music. We also have a comprehensive
collection of spoken word recordings, including all of the Shakespeare
plays on CD and a wide variety of poetry, drama and historically significant
recordings such as the Churchill speeches. Spoken word recordings
may be signed out for one week.
The Audio Room also houses the library's mixed media collection (items
with the location SPCOL/MEDIA and SPCOL/SP.SERV). This collection
includes books or other texts accompanied by tapes, slides, or CDs.
These materials are non-circulating.
