Dalhousie University Archives & Special Collections Hosts Development
of Proposal for Nova Scotia Heritage Portal
In August 2004,
the Dalhousie University Archives & Special Collections successfully
applied for a Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage
Strategic Development Initiative grant to develop a plan for the
creation of a heritage portal for the Nova Scotia Heritage Community.
The development of this plan has included the hiring of IKM Consultants
who undertook the research and writing of this report in consultation
with staff at the Dalhousie University Archives as well as members
of the Heritage Portal Steering Committee comprised of a number
of prominent individuals representing as diverse a cross-section
of the Heritage Community as possible and who have provided valuable
ongoing input and feedback on our deliberations.
The plan that
is presented in this report provides for a single doorway to the
information resources provided by the Province’s many heritage
institutions and organizations. The report also strongly encourages
and promotes the use of the portal as both a communication and educational
tool for the province’s Heritage Community, allowing the Community
to engage itself and communicate and work more effectively. This
report presents a portal plan that would be designed and implemented
through the leadership efforts of members of the Nova Scotia Heritage
Community in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism,
Culture and Heritage. The portal plan is structured to align itself
with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture, and Heritage's
strategic initiatives for improved economic growth, stewardship,
and governance practises and achievements.
