Usage Notes

Several things you need to know:
  • Usage Tips:
-- JSTOR works best searching for TITLE or ANY
-- Project MUSE works best searching for TITLE or KEYWORD
  • Possibilities for (0) results:
    -- Source failed to respond.
    -- Search type(s) not supported.
-- Too many results. Please narrow your search and try again.
  • Known Problems:
-- MeSH headings (not fully translated when searching for SUBJECT)
-- Novanet catalogue (can perform all searches, except ISSN)
  • Advice:
PROWLER does not provide all of the advanced search options you get when using an individual database by itself -- expect less relevance in your results set.

PROWLER does not search within all databases we have access to here at Dalhousie University -- know which resources are not included.

We recommend that when you have more time, or more specific search requirements, that you search a subject database.
