Classes and Workshops



The Libraries offer a number of tutorials and workshops covering various research tools and methods. There are scheduled sessions as well as those which can be done on demand. You can request a class with the Instruction Request Form.

We also offer a series of libcasts or online tutorials which cover the basic information needed to do library research.


RefWorks Basics

RefWorks can simplify the task of formatting references and producing a bibliography in your chosen citation style. In this 1 ½ hour hands-on session, we'll show you how to:

  • Create a RefWorks account

  • Import references from a database search

  • Add citations to your Word document

  • Generate a final bibliography in whatever citation style you wish

There are one-hour Webinars being offered by RefWorks. Individuals can register and will be given a confirmation email with instructions in how to log in.

RefWorks Plus

Get the most out of RefWorks by coming to a 1 1/2 hour hands-on session in which you will learn how to optimize your RefWorks account. You should already be comfortable with using RefWorks. If you haven't used RefWorks before, come to one of our basic sessions first.

Topics will include:

  • Organizing and searching your RefWorks database

  • Adding your own notes and including RSS feeds

  • Creating your own output style

  • Editing your citations in WriteNCite

  • Using RefShare to share your references with research colleagues

There are no RefWorks Plus sessions offered at this time.

Registration

Registration is required and limited to 12 participants. Please register at http://www.library.dal.ca/How/Classes/Form indicating which of the sessions you wish to attend.
