Access to our Collections

Health professionals can access our print and electronic collections freely within the Kellogg Health Sciences Library. There are several library workstations that do not require a login. From these stations, those not affiliated with Dalhousie can access our electronic databases, journals and books. Printing is provided at the rate of $0.12 per page.

Novanet Online Catalogue

The Novanet catalogue, searchable from any of the Libraries' webpages, lists resources from most post-secondary institutions in Nova Scotia, including the Kellogg Health Sciences Library. When searching by subject for medical resources held at the Kellogg Library, use the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) search option.

To borrow books from the Kellogg Library, or any Novanet library, you must apply for an off-campus borrower's card. You must be a Nova Scotia resident, and there is an annual fee of $35.00. This card can be purchased at the circulation desk of any Novanet library. Two pieces of identification, including one which shows proof of Nova Scotia residence, are required.

Loan Policies

Books:
A book loan is for 3 weeks. Books may be renewed twice if no other borrower is waiting for them. Items are subject to early recall if required for Reserve or by another user.
Renewals can be made in person at any Novanet library, or online at: http://www.library.dal.ca/Services/Borrow/Renew/ for instructions), or by special renewal forms available at the Library's circulation desk. These can then be faxed to the Library. Books may be renewed twice if no other borrower is waiting for them. Overdue books must be returned to the Library before they can be renewed.

Reserve materials:
Loan periods range from 2 hours to 1 week, depending on the item. Renewals are possible but must be made in person.

Serials/Journals:
Most journals do not circulate. Self-service photocopiers are available in the Library. Exceptions: a few monograph-like journals (e.g., Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences) can be borrowed on request. Loan period: 3 days.

Fines are calculated as of the date the material is returned to the Kellogg Library and may be paid at the circulation desk in the Kellogg Library or any other Novanet library. Failure to return books or to pay fines will result in the loss of library privileges.
