About the GIS CentreThe GIS Centre provides campus-wide support for Geographic Information Systems research and teaching. While acting as a repository and licencee for geospatial data, the GIS Centre also manages campus licences for GIS software. Support from the University Libraries, Dalhousie University as a whole, and the broader GIS community has made the GIS Centre the largest GIS library facility in Eastern Canada. |

Shade Model Project
This is one example of the type of projects that the GIS Centre is working on. The model utilizes LiDAR (light detection and ranging) elevation data to show shadow for a late summer day in and around the Public Gardens. The LiDAR dataset collected by the Halifax Regional Municipality has many uses in environmental and urban planning which are being explored by Dalhousie University and HRM.
