Sexton Library Services



Reference

The Sexton Library offers individual reference and research help at its Reference Desk, in person, by email or by telephone.  We charge a fee for in-depth research questions; see Research Services.

Learning Commons

The Sexton Learning Commons includes 13 Scholar workstations, as well as 4 Express workstations. The Commons features 2 scanners and a printer that supports double-sided printing.

New Books

New acquisitions are displayed for 2 weeks in the New Books Display in the lobby of the Library.  These New Books are available for loan.

Circulation

Come to the Circulation Desk to check out and renew books, pay fines, place holds, and update borrower information, and deposit funds to your DalCard.  Library cards for faculty, students, staff, and members of the public are issued here.

 

With the launch of Borrow Anywhere Return Anywhere (BARA) in September 2009, members of the public can borrow materials from, and return them to, any public, university or community college library in Nova Scotia, free of charge. Members of the public can register to use the Sexton Library at the Circulation Desk

Reserves

The Sexton Library's Reserve Collection is located behind the Circulation Desk and contains heavily used course material, as well as current issues of many Architecture serials.

Document Delivery

The Document Delivery service supports the teaching, learning and research needs of students, staff and faculty by obtaining books, articles and other research materials not available from any Novanet library. There is no charge for this service and requests can be made using our request form.

Electronic Table of Contents (ETOC)

Electronic Table of Contents and Article Delivery Service (ETOC) is available to faculty, graduate students and researchers in architecture, planning and engineering. This electronic service delivers free table of contents. Articles of interest can be requested by return email and will be supplied free of charge.

Research Services

Technical Library Research Service (TLRS) is a fee-based research service.  There are three options available: Research Service, Information Alert, Custom Service Package.  Please visit the Sexton Reference Desk for more information.

Learn to Use the Library

The Sexton Library offers Dalhousie faculty, staff and students a variety of opportunities to learn about the Sexton Library and its resources, including:
  • One-on-one instruction at the Reference Desk
  • web tutorials and podcasts
  • assignment-related in-class instruction
  • instructional guides online and in print
  • library tours during fall orientation

Fax Service @ Sexton Library

The Sexton Library now offers faxing service to our students, faculty and staff. Service will be offered between 8am-4pm, Monday – Friday. Pricing starts at 50 cents a page. Cover sheet provided. Outgoing faxes only. For more information, please stop by our Circulation Desk, or call 494-3240.
