About the Digital Collection

Frank Parker Day collage

The Dalhousie University Archives was fortunate to receive the Frank Parker Day collection as a donation from his family in 1976. The collection includes literary writings, correspondence, photographs, speeches, and essays spanning from approximately 1899 to 1957.

In February 2005, Day's novel Rockbound was voted winner of the prestigious CBC Canada Reads award. As a result, Day's life and works have been thrust into the spotlight decades after his death. The main focus of this digital collection is to highlight the introductory pages of various versions of the Rockbound manuscripts. A glimpse of the author's writing process can be gleaned by comparing variations amongst the drafts. In addition, selected photographs from throughout the author's life are presented.

The digital images offered on this site are just a small representation of the contents of the Frank Parker Day collection. A guide listing the full extent of the fonds can be found online here. All materials posted on this site, as well as the rest of the collection, can be viewed in person at the Dalhousie University Archives. In addition, several editions of Day's published novels (including Rockbound) can be found at Dalhousie University's Special Collections department.
