How to Use the Dalhousie Bacon Collection Website
This section of the website pops up in its own separate browser window, so that users may refer to it while using the functions of the main website without interruption.  In it, users can access basic information about the website, including how to read the catalogue records for the items in the Bacon Collection as well as how to browse and search them, what the terms which appear in the records mean (both familiar and unfamiliar) and how to find Bacon material using the two subscription-based online literature resources which Dalhousie users have access to: Early English Books Online and Literature Online. Instructions are also provided on how to find bibliographical entries for works by and about Sir Francis Bacon in the Dalhousie University Libraries' online catalogue, Novanet.

Search Keywords

Browse the Dalhousie Bacon Collection
This section of the website holds the catalogue records for all of the items which make up the collection - see the Interpreting the Catalogue Records and Glossary pages for assistance in reading the records.

The catalogue records are divided into five groups: the 'Collected Works' which gather together all of Bacon's published writings; the items which collect 'Two or More Works' of Bacon's rather than all of them; Bacon's various 'Single Works'; items which collect 'Selections, Extracts, etc.' of Bacon's writings; and 'Selected Baconiana', items which are based on or inspired directly by Bacon's work rather than those which are written by him.

Whenever possible, the catalogue records include thumbnail images of illustrations from the work in question - click on the thumbnails to go to pages with larger versions of the images.  Many of the records also include links to external sites which have digitized versions of the work - click those links to see what digital material is available, from such online resources as Early English Books Online and Literature Online.
